I’m a Pond Contractor – Let’s Talk

Hi, I’m Mat, your local landscape contractor. I have been in the landscape construction field
since I was a kid.

You know that saying, “Do something you love and you will never work a day in your life.”? Well, simply put, that’s me. I do what I do because I love it. In 2003, after a few plus years in the landscape construction trade, I found myself sitting on the edge of a local pond after work, throwing a few lines in before the sun went down. Being there, by the water, I was so relaxed, it was so beautiful, it was then I knew where I needed to focus, building Koi ponds. I’ve been doing just that ever since.

Now let me tell you, each of my water features are uniquely created by me and have been called works of art by most of our clients. Every rock in every water feature I have ever made has been placed personally and precisely by me. I turn each one this way and that until it speaks to me, then I know it has found its place. You see, when I am choosing a rock, I am not just seeing its beauty. I am envisioning how the water will flow over it and how it will affect the entire waterfall. I see if the rock has a nice flat edge that will create a great spot for you to hand feed your Koi. I look for a perfect natural cut in the rock to create the sheer curtain of water into your pond. Each rock has that “something special” and it’s my job to help it into that place.

But that’s quite literally just “scratching the surface” when it comes to pond and waterfall construction. Equally important are the components of a well constructed water feature that my clients don’t see. It begins with digging the hole. Each hole is chiseled and leveled with precision. The polyethylene liner or concrete is formed seamlessly into place covering every centimeter of water flow. The plumbing and filtration system I use has evolved over the years.

There are so many systems out there to chose from. Each system has pros and cons. Over the years, through experience, I have learned to piece the best parts together. You see, I take pride in my work and it really bums me out if a client calls with a problem so I do everything in my power to avoid problems from happening in the first place.

I love to share my joy of Koi ponds and water features with my clients. I love to see the excitement and happiness on their faces when I turn it on for the first time. I am so thankful when my past clients contact me to say that sitting by their Koi pond or water feature is their favorite place to be. It gives me fulfillment to hear how each water feature them brings happiness, joy, healing and inspiration because then I know the love I put into each project has been received.
